While I’m a fan of a wide assortment of cocktails, I’m always drawn to a particular one on the menu no matter what bar or restaurant I go to. Despite the weather, season, holiday, or event, if there is a cocktail with some spice, it’s the first one I order. Inspired by Valentines Day, I created one for the holiday where pink is more than appropriate and it should both warm the heart and put a smile on your face.
Hot Lips is a quick drink, perfect for an evening of hosting or even after a long day of work. Really, you don’t need an excuse to make one of these. Don’t let the pink color fool you, this one is more spicy than sweet.
Take a look at some of my favorite glassware for entertaining.
Ingredients
Sparkling Blood Orange Juice {found at Trader Joe’s}
Mezcal depending on your taste {Del Maguey Vida Mezcal}
Fresh Lime Juice
Freshly Sliced Jalapeno
Coup glass {or glass of choice – shop my favorites here}
Lip candy {found here and here} *optional
Long toothpicks {needed if you use candy skewing} *optional
Directions
In a glass or durable tumbler {be aware of thin or vintage glass ones}, muddle lime juice, and jalapeno slices. Add 1-2 ounces of mezcal and ice into a tumbler. Place the lid on the tumbler & secure. Shake and pour through the strainer into a glass; top with 2 oz. of sparkling blood orange juice. Secure a long toothpick or two into either side of candied lips and balance across the glass and serve.
