To say it’s been a bit of a whirlwind this year is a bit of understatement. B and I got engaged over the holidays, and soon after we began house-hunting and quickly purchased our fist home in San Francisco. Combine that with a busy work life and planning our wedding — I’ve never needed a good night’s rest more!
With the new home, B and I discussed what we wanted and what was most important for our new place. We knew for sure we wanted/needed a new mattress, and we were intrigued by the concept of a mattress in a box that is delivered to your front door. After all, the last thing I wanted to do was spend precious time walking around a mattress store. As with everything, B read review after review to understand the differences between the available options. This is how we discovered the Zotto mattress, with its four unique layers and decided to give it a try. With their 100 night trial period, there is nothing to lose!
Once our mattress arrived (just a day or two after ordering), I was surprised by the size of the box – I couldn’t believe it would hold a king size mattress! As for the weight, it required two of us to get it up our flight of 100-year-old stairs. Once we opened the box, slid out the mattress, and got it into place, it expanded to full size in about 30 seconds. Whoa! Head to the bottom of this post to win your own Zotto Mattress.
My tips on how to get a good nights sleep
#1. The Mattress
The foundation of a great night’s sleep is the right mattress. As a designer, I’m often asked what type to purchase? While the answer varies based on a client’s need for a soft versus firm mattress, etc, Zotto is my “go to” for a mattress in a box. I’ve never slept so well on four layers of foam. Even my British sisters were impressed. B actually had to wake me up this morning. The best part about it — it sleeps cool and there’s no movement. This might even pass the earthquake test.
#2. Bedding
Next up is, bedding – a personal choice, whatever you choose – bring in texture and colors that you find soothing. Luckily with a great price point on the Zotto mattress, it allows you to spring for the expensive bedding you have had your eye on (you know you have). Luckily, I found a deal on this duvet cover and shams – love them!
#3. Relax
The English in me always craves a hot cup of tea with a bit of milk. I sip it from a vintage tea cup that reminds me of my mother serving me tea after a long day. Whether it’s dimming the lights or listening to soft music, finding a way to relax is key.
#4. Turn Off Electronics
You may have heard of this one, but trust me on this – turn off all electronics & slip under the covers to uncover a story between the pages of good book.
#5. Keep it Clear
Don’t let it pile up – create a no work zone, whether it’s clothes or paperwork. Both of these create stress – leave it in the laundry room or at a desk (not a bedroom desk)!
Now, crawl into bed – enjoy your mattress, sheets, a good book, and that hot cup of tea. You can thank me in the morning!
