Can A Classic Shape Be Bold?

June 12, 2016

I’m currently working on the #MenloParkRemodel – this family is beyond cute. We are in the throws of remodeling a small but mighty home. Two bedrooms, two baths and not one inch is left in its current state. With this project, I’m going to dive into it more here on My Manicured Life and expose the steps that we are taking to turn the home they have lived in for the past 13 years into their dream home. Tile is so fun, and my clients are willing to go out of their comfort zone and go bold.

Does one have to select a crazy patterned tile to go bold, though? Definitely not, I love how the use of a classic shape such as the hexagon can take on new life when used in a unique way. This is one of my favorite ways to add an element of the unexpected – a push just outside someone’s comfort zone, resulting in dreamy and enticing spaces.

Here are a few ways, the classic hexagon shape gave a space new life.

Inspiration

featured hex

Okay, this one is undeniably bold. From the ceiling to the floor it bounces your eye around the space. Would you dare to go this bold?

hexagon backsplash

I love the use of these wood hexagon tiles in the backsplash to make a unique and visually interesting pattern.

bold blue hexagon

This rich blue hexagon tile with white grout pops rather than darkens the bathroom.

multi hexagon tile

The mixed hues found within the floor tile make for a stunning and memorable space. The warm tones keep the space from feeling cold despite the use of white, marble, tile, and brick.

white hex

With the repeat of the hexagon spaning from wall to wall, ceiling to floor, it tricks the eye into making the room appear larger and makes for a dramatic space.
hexagon on repeat

Hexagon on repeat and then repeated again.

hexagon blend

Rather than a harsh transition from wood to tile, blend them!

green hex

I’m green with envy over this bathroom tile.

star hex

I’m completely starry-eyed over this tile!

small to large

Repeating the placement of small hexagons creates a large visual impact.

black and white hex

Black and white perfection.

I am so excited to be using this shape in the upcoming #MenloParkRemodel.  Yes, the shape is nothing new, but the way we will use it throughout the house will be fun, eunxpected, and timeless.
