This week, I had the opportunity to step back inside our childhood home for a “check in” before the new renters take over. I will always love that house, but it has been years since I could be back inside. I have to say, though, it was so strange to sit in my old room with all the memories and the funny secrets {that felt huge during those years} flooding back – not to mention the paint colors that lay beneath the new coat of white paint. That house is where my parents let me experiment; I designed furniture with my father {who did woodworking as a hobby that had more of an effect on me than I realized at the time}, and some of the pieces still reside in the home; my mum helped me paint the walls any color I wanted — even in her kitchen and living room. It was where I was encouraged to simply try whatever design element I wanted and to remember the key rule: to design, have fun.
As always, here are the scenes from the week with highlights from the Decorators Showcase in SF, which you should visit if you have the opportunity.
