Summer days are finally hitting San Francisco, and while I’m sure we can expect a cold spell once again before our late summer really begins, I like to take the opportunity to switch up my home in preparation for even warmer weather. With a full schedule of design projects for my clients as well as diy, design, and lifestyle posts for My Manicured Life, time is of the essence. So, while I’m not completely revamping my home for summer, I have six quick ways that I plan to hit the refresh button. Overall, I like to challenge myself to re-use what I already own and use it in a new way! So, take a look around your place and see how you can give it a new life for the summer.
Summertime Your Home
Who doesn’t love to crawl into bed after a long day? Lighten up the linen palette to keep the space feeling fresh and airy. Try placing a larger, lightweight scarf at the end of the bed instead of a heavy blanket.
Even if you have a Juliette balcony, take advantage of the outdoors. Place plants or a small rug to help anchor the space and consider some accent lighting (try lanterns, bistro lights, and candles). Whether you keep it neutral or go for bold colors, you will extend the eye and your entertaining space.
By simply switching out your towels to white and lightweight ones, such as Turkish towels, you’ll bring a clean and fresh feel to the room. Here are some of my favorites.
Switching out your photos is a simple and quick way to add color or create a whole new color palette to a room.
Making or purchasing new pillow covers is a great way to keep your room feeling fresh and new again. I recently used sarongs to create summer-ready pillows for my sister – see my DIY post here.
While you may think you need to remove layers to lighten up, it’s actually about using the right layers. Jute rugs have a ton of tactile appeal for adding a layer of texture to a neutral room. Try layering under a rug or hang a swirly jute rug on the wall.
